MY WISHFUL WEDNESDAY [ 19 ] : ANNIVERSARY & GIVEAWAY

MY WISHFUL WEDNESDAY ( 19 )
Holaa !! It’s Wednesday again, and this day are special ‘coz not only we can make new wishlist but my dear Astrid (the lovely host of this blog hop) would granted some of those wishes if your name pop-up from the hat ... and I just wish that one the lucky-one (please ... listen to my prayer oh dear wishful-faery). But first let me say : Congratulations on Wishful Wednesday 1st Anniversary and Giveaway, may the next year ahead, our dreams will not just a dreams-pile any more (^_^) and thank you Astrid for give us a chance and a place to-do Wishful List. Most people might often thinking that to make a wish that never-end it's sound 'greedy' or never thankful enough. But for me, it's a perfet-ways to control my desire (and my budget) to choose which one will be chosen to buy for - learn to be smart and choose the right book-with the right budget, not the opposite (^_^).

So, are you ready for making some of dreams come true, let’s start with our new wishful today, and here they are :
~ THE COLLECTED STORIES by Charles Dickens ~
Thank’s to Fanda who give me ‘strong-vibe’ and her charming-influence (^_^), now I’m so attractive to Mr. Dickens (not the person though, but on his works, don’t make hash-judgement), and to Celebrate His 201th Year this month, some of our classic clubber are reading all his works for a month. And then I realize something, it will need more than a month to not only read his works but to appreciate his unique talent on writing. So even this month would ended tomorrow, I will continued the journey to explore his works. But then again I must have some of them first, because I’m prefer printed-books rather than e-book, I wanted my own collection on Dickens (I’m not gonna after the clotbound classic yet, but PEL edition would be suitable enough, hohoho)

DAVID COPPERFIELD
Preview :
'Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show'. Dickens' epic, exuberant novel is one of the greatest coming-of-age stories in literature. It chronicles David Copperfield's extraordinary journey through life, as he encounters villains, saviours, eccentrics and grotesques, including the wicked Mr Murdstone, stout-hearted Peggotty, formidable Betsey Trotwood, impecunious Micawber and odious Uriah Heep. Dickens' great Bildungsroman (based, in part, on his own boyhood, and which he described as a 'favourite child') is a work filled with life, both comic and tragic. The Penguin English Library - 100 editions of the best fiction in English, from the eighteenth century and the very first novels to the beginning of the First World War.

THE OLD CURIOSITY SHOP
Preview :
This is the "Penguin English Library Edition" of "The Old Curiosity Shop" by Charles Dickens. 'But what added most to the grotesque expression of his face, was a ghastly smile, which, appearing to be the mere result of habit and to have no connexion with any mirthful or complacent feeling, constantly revealed the few discoloured fangs that were yet scattered in his mouth, and gave him the aspect of a panting dog'. The tale of "Little Nell" gripped the nation when it first appeared in 1841. Described as a 'tragedy of sorrows', the story tells of Nell uprooted from a secure and innocent childhood and cast into a world where evil takes many shapes, the most fascinating of which is the stunted, lecherous Quilp. Blending realism with non-realistic genres such as fairy-tale, allegory, and pastoral, the tale of Nell's tragedy contains some of Dickens most memorable comic and grotesque creations, including the dwarf Daniel Quilp, Dick Swiveller and Kit Nubbles. "The Penguin English Library" contains 100 editions of the best fiction in English, from the eighteenth century and the first novels to the beginning of the First World War.

BARNABY RUDGE
Preview :
This is the "Penguin English Library Edition" of "Barnaby Rudge" by Charles Dickens "I dreamed...I dreamed just now that something - it was in the shape of a man - followed me - came softly to me - wouldn't let me be - but was always hiding and crouching, like a cat in dark corners, waiting till I should pass; when it crept out and came softly after me..." Set against the backdrop of the Gordon Riots of 1780, Charles Dickens' novel "Barnaby Rudge" is a story of mystery and suspense which begins with an unsolved double murder and goes on to involve conspiracy, blackmail, abduction and retribution. Through the course of the novel fathers and sons become opposed, apprentices plot against their masters and Protestants clash with Catholics on the streets. And, as London erupts into riot, Barnaby Rudge himself struggles to escape the curse of his own past. With its dramatic descriptions of public violence and private horror, its strange secrets and ghostly doublings, "Barnaby Rudge" is a powerful, disturbing blend of historical realism and Gothic melodrama. "The Penguin English Library" - 100 editions of the best fiction in English, from the eighteenth century and the very first novels to the beginning of the First World War.
